Did you recently attend a meeting where you were asked: “Are you writing SEO content?”.
You are like “come again please, what is that? Never heard of it.”
Suddenly you realise everyone is looking at you and feel that you are the only one in the meeting room and has no clue of what the hell is SEO content.
Your mind starts playing the game and you somehow manage to cook up an answer, while cursing digital marketing for coming up with another new word.
You look at your colleague who hates you the most, smiling and you want the meeting to get over soon so that you can return to your laptop, search for this new word and learn as much as you can about SEO content.
Well, if you are here then you are at the right place because in this blog you will learn SEO content writing tips businesses apply to stay ahead in the race.
But before I go further into discussing the tips, let me tell you what SEO content is?
A content which is written specifically for the target audience and attracts the attention of search engine when a proper keyword or key phrase is used by a searcher is an SEO content.
In other words, SEO content is written keeping On-Page SEO techniques in mind.
Well, that’s quite confusing, right? On one hand, you have to attract target audience and side by side you also have to make sure search engine finds your content.
You must be thinking “how can I do both the things with just one piece of content.”
Let’s see how to do that in detail.
1. Page title must speak about your page
The page title is an important factor when you write content.
Many times marketers are so busy writing content that they forget to work on their page title.
Make sure your page title speaks about the page.
Put the relevant keyword in the page title so that you can rank at the top on the google search when someone searches for that particular keyword.
Try not to stuff keywords in page title as sooner or later Google will catch you and may penalise your website.
2. Write 156 words summary of your content
When you search for something on Google it gives 100s and 1000s of result.
It is you who decides which link you will actually click to know further about your search query.
But before clicking on the link you read the summary of that particular page.
This summary is called meta description and it should include your targeted keywords and to the point description of what you are providing.
If meta description has poor content and irrelevant keywords then it will hamper your website rank.
Make sure your meta description has targeted keyword in it.
3. Meta tags
Though many people say meta tags does not work anymore.
According to my personal experience, meta description has helped me bring traffic to my website and so far it’s going well.
It’s a good practice to add meta tags so that search engine can find your page easily.
Make it a practice to include targeted keywords in your meta tag.
Warning: don’t spam your meta tag with keywords, else Google will block your website.
4. URL Naming
It is advisable to use search engine friendly URL structure.
URL should be simple to understand and should include your targeted keyword for better performance.
It makes the job of crawler easy.
5. Heading Tag
Always write content in the form of small paragraphs.
Break your sentence into 2-3 lines. It’s easy for your readers to read the content.
Adding heading tag like H1, H2 and so on helps search engine to determine which portion of your content is important.
Heading tags with a rich keyword is easily searched by Google than the generic ones.
6. Apply SEO to Images As well
SEO is not limited to content only. You should use image alt tags to give a proper name to your image.
The Alt tag should contain the keyword in it. Don’t just put names like “image1.jpg” or any number like “1234.jpg” as the search engine will not understand what you are trying to communicate through image and will simply ignore it.
7. Include Keyword phrase after every 150 words
Do not stuff too many keywords in your content as according to Google it’s a spam and you will get penalised by Google.
A good content has keyword phrase after every 150 words.
But don’t simply sit and count how many words you have written and think aha! it’s time to insert the keyword.
Instead, write in such a way that keyword syncs with the article and does not look like it has been put in the sentence forcefully.
8. Put Keyword In First & last Sentence of the Article
Well, it is clear from the title of this step what I exactly want you to do with your first line of the article.
But how to do that?
Let say you put the sentence in the form of a question. Or explain the title in the first few lines.
This way the search engine will get an idea what your article is all about and your chance of ranking at the top on SERP increases.
Putting keyword phrase is easy in the last sentence, you can always use your title to conclude your article.
9. Check spellings and grammar
You must have heard the phrase “First impression is the last impression.”
Don’t make your article fall victim of grammar and spelling mistakes.
After you write a content read it thoroughly before publishing.
Re-read it 3-4 times after publishing or even more till you are satisfied with what you have written.
What I do is I read it out loud after publishing my article.
I hear every single word to know how it will sound to my readers when they read the article.
Take a break, come again next day and read your published article again.
Sometimes we miss out on tiny mistakes, which you will see when your mind is fresh the next day.
Ask your colleague or friend to read the article for you.
Take help of others to improve your article as they might have some better sentence or they may point out your mistake which you did not notice.
This will improve the performance of your article.
If your content is of poor quality, you will lose your audience trust and they will think twice before purchasing from you.
10. Write Quality Content
Make your content audience friendly, not search engine friendly.
The content should be unique and easy to digest.
Keep the language simple and informative.

11. Add CTA at the end of content
Your blog is optimised and ready to get published.
But wait a minute. Will it generate leads for you?
In order to generate leads from your blog, you need to have a proper Call To Action (CTA).
It is a must to put social share buttons, but placing it at the bottom of the article is recommended.
Generally below the post-CTAs perform much better, as they follow the natural progression the reader takes in consuming your content. (Source: impactbnd.com)
Wait until the end of the article to present a CTA as it will provide you with an opportunity to present your reader with an actionable offer.
SEO Content is nothing but a step by step process of optimising your content so that it is easily available to the search engine.
Follow the above steps and optimise your article. I am sure it will give you the desired result.
